As a breeder, Anthura shows that distinctive entrepreneurship is more than just the streamlined delivery of high-quality plant material. The strength of this family business lies both in the way it innovates using the most up to date technologies and how it cooperates with other breeders. They share their knowledge within the GenNovation partnership and accelerate the practical implementation of breeding techniques, with the aim to increase the innovative strength in the sector.
Verdict of the expert jury: Sustainability is high on Anthura's agenda. The company invests heavily in R&D. This is clear from the DNA mapping of both Phalaenopsis and Anthurium, among others. The collaboration with customers through the chain transparency project Floriculture Sustainability Initiative (FSI) to achieve at least 90% sustainably produced flowers and plants by 2020, is also testimony to their vision. Anthura is a very good employer; space is given to develop talent within Anthura. With 35% university or higher-educated employees, the company has a great deal of in-house knowledge and expertise which they use to continually innovate and develop the sector.
