Three excellent entrepreneurs stand to win the Tuinbouw Ondernemersprijs 2018 (Horticultural Entrepreneurs’ Award 2018)
The finalists for the Tuinbouw Ondernemersprijs 2018 have been announced. On Friday 27 October, Chair of the Board Nico Koomen made a surprise visit to the three nominated candidates who stand to win the prestigious entrepreneurs’ award, which, on 10 January, will be presented for the 32nd time.
What the finalists have in common is that they are using a strong and updated strategy to respond to the rapidly changing society in which sustainability and economics go hand in hand. There is a constant flow of innovations in these companies and collaboration is being sought with partners to improve not just as an entrepreneur, but as a sector. The nominated candidates develop and share knowledge.

The theme of the award ceremony at January 11th - ‘Family businesses, the art of successful transition’ - is very topical in the horticulture sector. In his study ‘Fresh blood, fresh direction’ (Nieuw bloed, nieuwe koers), Prof. Purcey Heugens of RSM Erasmus University has concluded that the handover of family businesses does not always go smoothly. A discussion took place with the leading entrepreneurs in the hall about how the business transition can be managed better.

The International jury had nominated for the category 'Trees and Finished Plants'. The winner will be announced at the Award ceremony and Gala dinner at January 24th 2017 at IPM Horticulture Trade Fair in Essen. Last year Florensis and Arcadia Chrysanten went home as gold winner in the category Young Plants (Florensis) and Cut Flowers (Arcadia).

Celebrating the world’s best ornamentals growers, the AIPH International Grower of the Year Awards 2016 - Gala Dinner took place on 28 January 2016, during IPM Essen, Germany. At this event Florensis and Arcadia Chrysanthemums went home as gold winner in the category Young Plants (Florensis) and Cut flowers (Arcadia). The international jury with growers from Hungary, Canada, Japan and The Netherlands (Peter van de Pol from Schoneveld Breeding), says: 'Florensis is a global company which dominates in its area of expertise, and is an outstanding and professional performer in the young plant industry'. Ebben Tree Nursery in Cuijk has won the Horticulture Entrepreneur Prize 2016. The company, which specialises in naturally-shaped, multi-stemmed trees, focuses considerable attention on international, market-oriented activities. Managing Director Toon Ebben received the prize, a work of art, during the festive awards ceremony on 6 January , in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Máxima. The judges were of the opinion that Ebben Tree Nursery excelled in maintaining national and international relations, with considerable attention to communication at all levels in the supply chain. The activities of Ebben Tree Nursery are geared towards exchange of knowledge, openness and promotion of the sector. The care given to sustainability of the living environment and soil improvement is unique. As winner of the Horticulture Entrepreneur Prize 2016, Ebben Tree Nursery will serve as an ambassador for the sector for the coming year.
